Hannah & Alistair came to us with a vision of a micro wedding with macro style. In just 3 short weeks, we were able to plan and design a gorgeous wedding for them with 8 guests at Lowndes Grove here in Charleston, South Carolina. While looking for a venue, Hannah & Alistair voiced their desire for something exceptionally Charleston in architecture and landscape. Lowndes Grove is one of our favorite venues here in Charleston for that reason! With a charming piazza and luxurious live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, this was the perfect spot.
The bride sent us inspiration photos for wedding stationery from Pretty Written Things, and since we had worked with Karissa previously, we contacted her to see if she could create 3 handwritten suites, one for the bride and groom to keep, the other two for his and her parents. It’s very rare that you can get 3 handwritten copies of a wedding invitation suite, each different and unique, but micro weddings make so many things possible!
From there, we found a local florist, Petaloso to create the most whimsical floral arrangements filled with pops of warm, peach tones on clear acrylic pedestals to pair with blue accents in the decor. We had originally planned to do a waterfront ceremony under the oaks, but a last minute weather change, at exactly 30 seconds before the ceremony start time, forced us under the tent to avoid the rain! This was especially challenging for setting up the live stream for the groom’s family in the U.K. and the bride’s family from Sweden that couldn’t make it due to COVID-19. Even in the torrential downpour that began as they read their vows, it was the sweetest, most heartfelt ceremony that had Haley and me in tears!
Instead of a formal reception, we created the most intimate cake cutting and champagne toast in the iconic portico at Lowndes Grove to follow the ceremony. We tapped Ooh! Events for rentals of the most marvelous velvet blue chairs, as well as marble candle sticks, glassware, gilded flatware and china. A specialty linen rental from La Tavola married the peach and blue color scheme perfectly for the cake table, and we moved the ceremony arrangements inside to create a gorgeous vignette for sweets and bubbles.
Just in time for portraits, The Pink Figgy arrived in all her blush glory, a special request from the bride. You just can’t go wrong with a ’91 Figaro in PINK. We arranged a private dinner at local favorite, High Cotton, for the reception where we transported the florals and set up place cards, also by Pretty Written Things, on a table spread with another specialty linen from La Tavola and blue napkins from EventWorks. We are so honored that Hannah & Alistair chose us to make the first step into their marriage a beautiful one, and we are even more grateful for the creative freedom to make their dreams come true!
