How to (legally) get married in Charleston!
- Get engaged and set your date!
- You’ll need $70.00 in cash only for the application fee and one form of valid identification: driver’s license, original or certified copy of birth certificate, or current passport.
- Both of you must apply in person together downtown at the location below (public parking available in the garage between the court building and the Mills House Hotel, access on Meeting Street):
Charleston County Probate: Marriage License Division
100 Broad Street
Charleston, SC 29401
- Wait 24 hours before picking up the license and getting married – this means you cannot apply for your license the day before the wedding!
- Get married!
While the 24 hour waiting period is convenient if you’re coming into town at the beginning of the week before your weekend wedding, we recommend applying and getting your license earlier, on one of your visits to Charleston during your planning period if possible!
For more detailed information on the application process please see the Charleston County Probate Court Website.
